2010 Juno Awards Submissions Now Open

October 18 – Submission and eligibility details are as follows:

Artists, songwriters, producers, etc, can make their own submissions.

You do not require national distribution in order to qualify for the JUNO Awards, however, your product must be available for retail or online sale in Canada.

The eligibility period for the 2010 JUNO Awards is between September 1, 2008 and November 13, 2009. This means that your product must have been released to the general public within this time frame.

As long as the artist is born a Canadian or is a landed immigrant who has resided in Canada for the past 6 months, during the eligibility period, the product qualifies.

CARAS offers an early bird submission fee to those who submit between October 1-22. CARAS members receive a reduced submission fee applicable to both the early bird deadline as well as the final deadline. If you are eligible to submit, you are eligible for membership. Saskatchewan acts in CBC Radio 2’s Great Canadian Song Quest

October 18 – CBC Radio 2, Canada’s national music network, reveals a list of 65 Canadian singer-songwriters vying for the chance to immortalize Canadians’ favourite places in song in the Great Canadian Song Quest. It’s now up to Canadians to choose the artists and pick the spots to be forever commemorated in Canada’s songbook. Voters have until October 23 at 12 a.m. ET to choose from a shortlist of the most popular places from each province and territory, and the artists they’d like to see create the song for those locations, by visiting Once voting closes, the final 13 artists have four weeks to compose and record an original song, inspired by the most popular Canadian location from their province or territory.

Saskatchewan nominees include: Connie Kaldor, The Deep Dark Woods, Jason Plumb, Jay Semko, and Jen Lane. GOOD LUCK!


Saskatchewan welcomes Stephen Maguire

October 18 – From Belfast, Northern Ireland, singer/songwriter Stephen Maguire now also calls Saskatoon home and is a member of the Saskatchewan Country Music Association. Splitting his time between the emerald isle and the Canadian prairies, Stephen is currently recording at the Gemini award-winning Cosmic Pad Studios with Ross Nykiforuk.
